The world either believe's we're disgustingly super skinny idiots or we're disgustingly obese idiots. What most of the rest of the world doesn't realize is that my generation (80's and 90's kids) and probably the future generations are much more inclined to learn about the world that other's think. It's our parent's generation and grandparents that make everyone think we're retarded. They grew up with now link to the rest of the country so they listned to what their parents had to say and accepted it as true. That's why you'll see more of that generation still clinging to things like racism, anti semitic believes, homophobia and stuff like that. Because we grew up with computers and a more sophisticated broadcasting system, this generation can form our own opinions on world happenings. And yes, there are some people out there who really are just ignorant of what is happening in the world because they're self absorbed. That's just what they are. Not all of us are like that. Growing up in America it's easy to take things for granted but it's very hard to not be socially and culturally rich. Surrounded by different cultures and backgrounds, teenagers like me are able to fully appreciate the traditions of different cultures and be tolerant, not necessary accept, other's beliefs.

This was a response to someone's post on being embarassed of your nationality. I didn't mean to sound mean while i was typing. I wasn't angry or offended or anything. I just thought this was a good explination to why American's might be embarassed about themselves.
